Worcester Polytechnic Institute will officially dedicate its new sports and recreation center today with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. in front of the building and then festivities continuing through 2 p.m. The recreation center is already in use by faculty and staff and the facility is expected to be a busy place throughout the semester.
The WPI Sports and Recreation Center features a four-court gymnasium with a three-lane perimeter jogging track, a 25-meter, 250-spectator competition swimming pool heated by a solar thermal system; three convertible racquetball and squash courts; a two-level fitness space; an eight-person rowing tank; and a field-level training and rehabilitation suite. The building will be the third to attain LEED certification.
The project proved to be a wonderful opportunity for Cannon Design and we wish WPI a great dedication ceremony today.
